Standing on Umina Beach swinging from side to side, over and over, at Christmas time when the place is crowded, attracts no attention or comment from anyone. I was surprised. I enjoy experimenting or playing with blur and I like this one very much for the colours.
Middle of the day with people about and a slow shutter has rendered them as ghosts. The sky pattern is just moving clouds rather than any post processing effect although the colour and tonality has been altered in Adobe Lightroom and a vignette added. I particularly like the colour palette in this and it’s one I use quite a bit.
The pool now has some new modern lights around it which I think spoils it – I haven’t shot there again since. See more images here: Portfolio
Standing on the beach I was panning from side to side. A number of people walking past paid me no attention at all, which at the time, I thought was fortunate as a I wanted to concentrate on getting the timing and motion right for the shot. Looking back I’m surprised that no-one asked what I was doing as I must have looked odd. It’s important when panning for this sort of shot to follow through past the point when you press the shutter otherwise you get an abrupt edge to the image. The motion I’ve found the best is to wind up your body to the right and then unwind (rotate) to the left pressing the shutter at just the right time and with just the right shutter speed – it takes few practices.
