Moving

Moving

The chess board was installed in Hyde Park in 1972 (History). The board is located at the northern end near St James station. When I worked in the city I used to wonder over and watch during lunch hour. Generally people, I think, consider it slow game so I thought I’d try to capture some action by blurring the movement with a variable neutral density filter fitted to the camera’s lens.

Pelicans

Pelicans

At Seventeen Seventy which is just south of Rockhampton on the Queensland coast we spent a relaxing afternoon lounging on the beach looking over to a sand bank in the mouth of the estuary. Patiently waiting for the right combination of pelicans and seagulls, which were plentiful, was a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

I settled for awhile in Mundey Place ( Jack Mundey)  in the Rocks, Sydney and waited for something to happen in front a relief motif of Jack. This is cropped quite a bit but I like the branch at the top which I think balances the lady on the seat. I’ve toned the dark areas in this a bit as well.

Richmond Beach

Another from the Weekend workshop with Paul Kowalski Richmond Beach is also in the Murramarang National Park. The rush of the water in the forground, pale yellow-orange sky and the two white tree trunks in the headland somehow seem to come together for me.

Pebbly Beach is in the Murramarang National Park. I was on a weekend workshop with Paul Kowalski – a most enjoyable weekend. In this one I like the triangle formed by the two rocks in the fore and middle grounds and the island on the horizon with the headland pointing at it.

Standing on Umina Beach swinging from side to side, over and over, at Christmas time when the place is crowded, attracts no attention or comment from anyone. I was surprised. I enjoy experimenting or playing with blur and I like this one very much for the colours.

Enjoyment

At Knight Inlet
At Knight Inlet

Grizzly bear viewing at Knight Inlet (Map) in Glendale Cove. We were in a small aluminium boat cruising the inlet. A few of the bears were swimming this one in particular appeared to enjoy the swim. The spray, flapping ears, closed eyes and expression just shout enjoyment to me. Or perhaps I’m just anthropomorphising. We were staying at  Knight Inlet Lodge which is a floating lodge in Glendale cove, British Columbia, Canada. At least it was floating a week before we got there, just before it burnt down (burnt sunk?). We were flown in each day from Campbell River and did the same things we would have done had we stayed in the lodge. We enjoyed it so much anyway that we are going back in June 2017, now that they have rebuilt.

A close up of a eucalypt at Bendeela Recreation Reserve. I was on a Len Metcalf photography workshop in Kangaroo. For me the grey shape running through centre of the image makes it. See more images here: Portfolio

Butcher’s Block

Butcher's Block
Butcher’s Block

Butcher’s Block is one of 24 images in the Aradale Folio. The Butcher’s block is in the kitchen area of Aradale. Aradale is an abandoned town on a hill above Ararat in the Victorian countryside. It was a mental asylum for 130 years and although not correctly a town it was designed to be self-sustaining. It housed 1000 patients and 500 staff in a 100 hectare complex of 18 wards plus workshops, gardens, hospital and morgue and a chapel; 63 buildings in all. In 1860 the Government of the day decided to construct three sister asylums across Victoria to accommodate ‘lunatics’. Continue reading
